Success Story: You must have often heard that people make their big dreams come true with small efforts. The story of Nanu Gupta of Haryana is also similar, which touches and inspires the heart.

You must have heard or read many times that people achieve success by taking small steps to fulfill their dreams. The story of Nanu Gupta of Haryana is such that inspires everyone. Born in a peasant family in Haryana in 1942, Nanu came to Mumbai in 1954 and with his hard work, made a big company like Vijay Sales.

Today Vijay Sales is India’s famous electronics retail chain, which has more than 120 stores and the annual sales are more than Rs 4000 crore. Nanu started all this from just Rs 2000. Nanu started by selling fans and sewing machines for Usha International Limited. From there, he learned the skills of understanding customers and dealing with them.

Then in 1967, in the name of his brother, he opened a 50-60 square foot shop in Matunga, Mumbai, named Vijay Sales. Initially, he used to sell sewing machines and fans. In 1974, he started selling black and white TV. When the colorful TV came, Nanu played a big bet and bought a big place in Mahim, so that he could show the TV in an attractive way.

His son Nilesh Gupta says that this decision was considered risky at that time, but Nanu’s visionary thinking came in handy. His strategy was to keep all the TVs in the shop, so that the customers should be attracted.

Nanu’s special thing was to win the trust of customers. At that time EMI was not trending, but Nanu used to give customers the facility to pay in installments. If someone had a problem in the goods, then he would go to their house and solve the problem.

His honesty and service won the hearts of the people. By 2006-07, Vijay Sales had 8-10 stores in Mumbai. At the same time, he bought a four -storey big store in Goregaon, in which every floor was 1300 square feet. In 2007-08, the company opened stores in Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat and Delhi and earned Rs 500 crore.

In 2007, Vijay Sales started selling digital products like mobile phones and computers. Today, the company sells more than 3500 products in more than 11 categories. It has stores in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Nanu is now the chairman of the company, while his sons Nilesh and Ashish Gupta are directors. His grandson Karan Gupta is also involved in business. In 2021, a senior official of the company had said that Vijay Sales wants to take his sales from Rs 8000 to 10,000 crore by 2025 and a target is to open 200 stores. He has millions of followers on Instagram, which shows its popularity. Nanu’s hard work and dedication to customers brought Vijay Sales to this point. His story teaches that a big place can be achieved with a small start and honesty.
