Delhi. Saving water and keeping the environment clean is the biggest need of today. With this thinking, two sisters of Modi Nagar, Karishma and her elder sister, started their startup. ‘Maa Paani’ aims to provide people with such products which do not pollute the water and are completely natural and they are following this path. These two sisters from Delhi, who have been working on environmental protection and water conservation for many years.

Karishma says that when she was an architecture intern, she came to know that every day every person wastes 20-50 liters of water with chemical mixtures. This is the story of just one person, if we talk about the entire country then imagine how much water is being lost. Karishma says that this thinking inspires her to make products related to natural and water conservation.

New options for natural tooth powder and soap
Their most famous product is tooth powder, which contains clove, pink salt, turmeric, neem, ginger and fennel seeds. It can be used for both cleaning teeth and massaging. This is a completely natural alternative to toothpaste. Similarly, soap and shampoo are also prepared from old traditional recipes.

Biodegradable diyas and upcycled products
Not only this, both the sisters have made biodegradable lamps. These contain seeds and are prepared without cooking. After the puja, these will either become plants or become fertilizer for the soil. The lamps are made from upcycled wood. That means wood that was previously going into garbage has been used. Similarly, their bags and carts are also made from upcycled materials.

Big contribution of women
On other days, 12-15 women work in the Maa Paani team and this number increases to 30 during festivals. The startup started with research in 2017 and was registered as a company in 2019. Now it is a private limited company and last year’s turnover was Rs 35-50 lakh. Karishma and her sister believe that by adopting old traditional remedies, we can not only save water but also keep the environment clean. Their products show that small changes can make a big difference in our lives.
