Born in Uganda, Britain becomes Karmabhoomi
Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia was born into a Sikh family in Kampala, Uganda. His childhood was full of challenges. When he was only 13 years old due to the harassment in Uganda during the reign of Edi Amin in 1972, his parents had to run to Britain. On reaching Britain, the entire family stayed in a temporary shared residence for a year.
A shop started a business journey
In 1978, Ahluwalia bought a small shop of car parts on Wilsdon Road in London by taking a loan from his father and a bank. Its name was Highway Autose. A year later, Ahluwalia changed its name to euro car parts. Over time, the work of the shop increased and it took the power of a company. By 1981, Ahluwalia opened the second branch of the company in the Wilsden region. The company launched supply of high quality car parts for reputed companies such as BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Volkswagen. Gradually the Euro car parts became the major supplier of parts, paints and equipment for cars and light commercial vehicles in the UK.
Company sold in 2011
By 2011, the company was employing more than 3,500 employees at 89 places. In October 2011, Ahluwalia sold the Euro car parts to Eloccu Corporation for £ 280 million. Even after sale, Ahluwalia did not take step back. He played his role as the Executive Chairman of the businesses of LKQ Corporation in the UK, Ireland and India and contributed significantly in advancing the company. In December 2018, he resigned from the Eloccu Corporation Board.
