Since childhood, Manish was interested in fashion and design. He was the children sitting on the back bench in the school, who used to be lost in their dreams more than studies. In the fifth grade, when the rest of the children brought school bags, Manish would carry a VIP suitcase, because he felt that it makes him like a businessman. His stubbornness and passion later proved to be true for him.

Manish Poddar started studying commerce from Jai Hind College after completing his studies, but luck pulled him towards his father’s business Radhamani Textiles. At the age of 16–17, he started working in textile mills and learned gradually designing and export work. He took a big step in the 2000s.

In 2004, he started a garment manufacturing unit in Bengaluru with all his capital and a loan of Rs 37 crore. After this, when he saw the Zara store during his visit to Europe, his life changed. He sent designs to Zara’s parent company Inditex and designed garments for him for the next ten years. This spread his business to Europe and he started working with big brands like Jack & Jones, Miss Sixty.

Rare rabit started like this

But Manish’s dream was bigger. In 2015, he started the rare rabit, which was a mission to make men stylish. He believed that men’s clothes should be not only needed, but should be part of their personality. He launched the first store in UB City, Bangalore by opening the first store. In this brand, he took ideas from Europe, got clothes from Italy, and got the store design from New York. Even the fragrance of the store reached Spain. The cost of their clothes ranged from 20 to 80 dollars, which was a premium for India but cheaper luxury.

Gradually, rare rabit also made its place in small towns like Bhopal, Dehradun, Bathinda. Manish put the entire value chain in his hand, which included from designing to manufacturing and retailing. This reduced the cost and the quality remained. Floral prints and smart casual style in his clothes attracted the youth. Palkit Verma, who is the e-commerce head of rare rabit, says that it has become common to see men wearing floral clothes in the office today. Manish said in 2017 that men do not want to be lost in the crowd, but want to be noted.

Today is the business of so many crores

Today the value of rare rabit has gone up to $ 300 million i.e. about Rs 2400 crore. Tata Capital is talking about investing $ 40 million for 13 per cent stake in this brand. Also, A91 partners are also showing interest in it. Manish’s hard work and new thinking not only gave him success, but also changed the fashion understanding of Indian men. His story tells that any dream can come true with hard work and passion.
