The story of this brand, which is famous for its unique taste and new ideas, has been written by Sanam Kapoor, an ordinary middle class boy from Chandigarh.
Leaving HCL’s tech job, Sanam Kapoor opened the first La Pinoz Pizza outlet in 2011 and today has created a business worth Rs 1000 crore with more than 600 stores.
Sanam Kapoor was doing a good job in an IT company. Coming from a middle class family, Sanam always wanted to do something different. He wanted to find pizza with good Indian taste. Thinking something different from the existing brands in the market, he started La Pinoz.
It was not easy to leave the job, but he believed in his dream. There were difficulties in the beginning, because the concept of pizza was not new and big brands were dominant. But Sanam did not give up. He paid special attention to marketing.
Sanam’s idea was that instead of buying the entire pizza, people should try different slices. This attracted those who like new flavours, customers with budget and those who do not waste. Every state in India has its own taste, so Sanam personalized the pizza with local spices. Targeting the youth, the focus was on fresh pizza.
La Pinoise makes new dough every three hours, while some larger brands make it every 24 hours. Due to this the pizza always remains fresh. Also, keep only vegetarian option, which was liked by the large vegetarian population of India. The franchisee was given the freedom to choose veg or non-veg.
He also kept the prices low. An average pizza at La Pino’s is available for Rs 200, while big brands charge Rs 300. This created a combination of economical and tasty pizza. Sanam connected customers with local tastes. Like, by using local spices in different states. This strategy worked. There were 100 stores in 2017, and will cross 500 by 2022. Today there are more than 600 outlets. Now there are plans for global expansion.
Sanam’s story shows that anything can be achieved with the right idea, hard work and customer focus. Coming from a middle class background, he proved that dreams are big, not the background. Today La Pinoza is not only shining in India but is ready to spread in the world.
