Success Story- IKEA is the world’s largest furniture retailer today. The company started by Ingwar Camprad at the age of 17. From the age of six, Camprad started working and started selling matches.

The world’s largest furniture retailer IKEA founder Ingwar Camparad is an example of this. Camprad, born in the year 1926, born to a poor villager of Sweden, was spent in extreme poverty. The condition was that at the age of six, he had to start working with studies. From above he was suffering from dyslexia. But, Camprad did not allow any difficulties to become a hindrance to its success and created a company whose business has spread to about 65 countries including India. Despite being a billionaire, Camprad lived a very simple life and always stayed away from extravagance. He died at the age of 91 in the year 2018. He was famous as ‘Kanjus Uncle’ among friends.
IKEA started with the reward received by father
Even though Camprad started selling matches from the age of six, but did not give up studies. He was fast in studies. Once he came to the class, his father gave him some money in reward. With these money, he started the icia in 1943. At that time he was only 17 years old. The company initially made small household items like pen, wallet, and picture frames. Camparad entered the furniture business in 1948.
Furniture business starts with kitchen table
He started the furniture business by selling kitchen tables. They used to buy tables cheaply from local artisans and sell it at expensive prices. After some time, he started selling more domestic furniture besides the table. His company became popular only after 2 years of starting work.
Ikea got famous flat-pack furniture. In the late 1940s, Ingwar Camparad felt that shipping of large, assembled furniture was expensive. He designed the products in such a way that they could be separated and they could be added to the flat. With this, Ikea reduced shipping expenses to a great extent. At the same time, their sales were also increased manifold.
Now 176000 crores is valuration
Today, Akia has around 500 stores in 65 countries. IKEA’s valuation today is around Rs 176169 crore. There are about 12,000 products on the IKEA website. Today it is the world’s largest furniture retailer, designing and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, equipment, household items and more. In India, IKEA opened its first store in 2018.
