At the age of 20, when a girl stepped into fashion business after getting married, how did they put it in the fashion business.

Whenever it comes to fashion, there are some brands in our mind whose name comes first. Today we are going to tell you the story of one such famous brand, which was started by a housewife many years ago.

Raised in Delhi, Meena Bindra studied at Miranda House of Delhi University and got married at the age of 20. She was living a simple life with her husband, who was in the Navy, and two sons, Sanjay and Siddharth. But at the age of 40, when the children grew up and they had free time, they decided to do something new.

In 1988, without any fashion designing studies or experience, Meena began selling simple cotton suits from home. They did not have money, nor bank account. She helped her husband and took a loan of Rs 8000 from the bank. Biba started from here.

At that time readymade churidar-kurte was a new idea and it was not easy to raise clothes. But Meena’s hard work and new designs soon caught her attention. Her dressage was liked by women of all ages and she became famous overnight.

Mumbai’s famous store Banger gave Meena a big chance. Their designs started selling out of the house. Biba progressed slowly and today it has more than 180 stores in 76 cities and Biba clothes are found in 275 multi-brand stores.

In 2004, Biba opened her first store in a mall in Mumbai. By 2012, its earnings reached Rs 300 crore and in 2020 it became a brand of Rs 600 crore. Today, Biba’s annual earnings are around 700 crores. Meena says that good quality, right price and time delivery is the secret of her success.

Biba also made her place in Bollywood. In 2004, it started designing clothes for films, such as ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’, ‘Hustle’ and ‘Baghban’. In these films, Biba’s clothes made the brand more famous. In 2015, Biba received the ‘Best Women’s Ethnic Ware Brand’ Award and Meena was awarded the ‘Apex Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI).

Meena is still active in Biba’s designs. She checks every clothes herself so that beauty and decency remains in it. Biba’s online store Biba.in has reached every corner of the country. In 2020, his net worth was Rs 710 crore. Meena’s story tells that any dream can come true with hard work, passion and courage. She is an example for women who want to do something big on their own.
