New Delhi. A person who has hard work, passion to do something new and desire to learn all the time reaches the pinnacle of success. This has been proved by Punjab’s dairy farmer Sikandar Singh Swach. Sikandar Singh, a resident of Kheri Jattan village in Patiala district, once had a debt of Rs 6 lakh, but today his name comes among the most successful dairy entrepreneurs of Punjab and he earns lakhs of rupees annually. The story of Sikandar Singh is not just that of a dairy farmer, but also the story of a thinking which says that if there is determination then even the soil can spit out gold.
With his hard work, intelligence and use of technology, Sikandar proved that a business worth crores can be set up even in villages. Today his farm not only provides milk but also provides inspiration to those youth who want to do something big by living in the village. 43-year-old Sikandar Singh Swach has a huge dairy farm of 215 cows. He has built this farm in Chaswal village. Every day his farm produces 3,000 liters of milk. Not only this, every year they also sell at least 25 cows whose average price is Rs 80 thousand per cow. Alexander’s dairy farm is almost completely automated today. For this reason, only 10 people work for the care and production process of 215 cows.
Started animal husbandry in the year 2000
According to a report in Indian Express, Sikandar passed intermediate in the year 1999 at the age of 17. Had some knowledge of farming, but no experience of dairy farming. No one in the family had ever looked at cows and buffaloes from a business perspective. Alexander was fond of animals from the beginning. But, he also did not think of doing animal husbandry as a business. But fate had something else in store. After intermediate, he took dairy training from MILKFED in 1999 and learned modern dairy technology from Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) the next year. This made him realize the potential of dairy farming business.
Bought 20 cows by taking loan of Rs 6 lakh
In the year 2000, he started a dairy by taking a loan of Rs 6 lakh. He bought 20 Holstein Friesian (HF) breed milch cows. Sikandar was hardworking, he had taken training in dairy farming. The initial years were very difficult. From milking to selling, every work had to be done by oneself. The result was that within 4 years he paid off the loan of Rs. 6 lakhs and his dairy business became profitable.
Modern system installed for Rs 1.5 crore
In the year 2013, Sikandar took a big decision. He took a loan of Rs 1.5 crore and converted his farm into a completely automatic system. He ordered a modern milking parlor and automatic packing system from Israel. He says, “Now no one is involved in milking. The entire system is run by machines, which has increased both cleanliness and efficiency. Cows are milked at a fixed time, without any stress.”
Special care for the health of cows
According to Sikandar, the real strength of his dairy is his cows. In his farm, 140 cows give milk daily, while the rest are pregnant or with new calves. He says that the normal lifespan of a cow is to give milk 6 to 7 times, but some cows in his farm give milk up to 9-10 times. The secret is to take proper care of them. They provide special diet and rest to pregnant cows. When the cow is 7 months pregnant, I stop milking her so that she can get rest for 2 months. This keeps the cow healthy and gives more milk next time.

In the year 2023, Sikandar started his own feed mill named OKAB Cattle Feed. Here he himself prepares high quality fodder. This not only improves the health of their cows, but also benefits the nearby farmers. He gets contract farming of green fodder done from local farmers and also prepares silage (fodder pickle).
3000 liters of milk is sold daily
Today the daily milk production in his farm is 3,000 litres. Out of this, they sell 50% milk directly to customers at Rs 60 per liter, and the rest to Verka and Amul at Rs 44 per liter. Alexander’s dedication and innovation won him many awards. Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana honored him with the Chief Minister’s Award 2025-26.
