Education incomplete, but completely specializes in farming
Vasantamma, a resident of Hanumantpura village in Hunsur Taluk in Mysore district, did not complete high school, but with her experience and hard work, she has earned such a name in farming that she is teaching others today. He has grown more than 34 horticulture crops on his 6 acres of land and that too in a completely biological and natural way.
Vasantamma has cultivated spices like 100 sandalwood trees, 800 betel nut trees, 50 coconut, 40 cocoa, and pepper, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, mint, biryani leaves, fennel in their fields. Apart from this, he has also cultivated many fruits like orange, mango, chiku, dragon fruit, litchi, water apple, butter fruit, star fruit, banana, lemon. The special thing is that they have also planted palm oil plants and have provided drip irrigation in the field.
Cultivated with technology
Vasantamma’s son Sabarinathan, who is a software engineer by profession, is also marketing farming with technology. He has formed a WhatsApp group called “Greenlef” and promotes fruits in it. His sister Nandini, who is MCA pass, also helps in this work. Sabarinathan goes to the village every Saturday and deliver fruits to people’s homes in the city on Sunday.
Agriculture department is also taking learning
Many farmers now come to take training on Vasantamma’s farm. He has also received the honor of taluka and “farmer woman” at the state level. Vasantamma, who income more than Rs 10 lakh annually, has now become an inspiration for women farmers.
