Bollywood Richest Family: From the sale of fruits to rule the industry, meet the family who has left Bachchan, Khan, Kapoor and Chopra behind in terms of money and gained the top spot.
When it comes to Bollywood’s richest families, the name of Bachchan and Kapoor family usually comes first. But, at the top of this list is a family that is associated with the music industry and which has given many hit songs and global anthem. Surprisingly, the second richest Bollywood family is of Aditya Chopra, whose estimated property is ₹ 8000 crore. In comparison, the property of the Bachchan family is about ₹ 4500 crore, while the property of the Kapoor family is ₹ 2000 crore, as reported in the report of Bollywood Kshadij. The special thing is that the major families of the South Indian film industry-Akkineni and Mega Family (Allu-Konidella)-are also included in this list.
According to the Hurun India Rich List 2024, the richest Indians come from various industries, including Bollywood. At the top of this list from the film industry, Bhushan Kumar’s family is the owner of the T-Series group. His total assets are estimated to be around ₹ 10,000 crore (more than $ 1.2 billion). Yes, you read the right – the Kumar family has officially surpassed Bollywood’s biggest names and achieved the title of the richest Bollywood family.
Gulshan Kumar was born on 5 May 1951 in New Delhi. He was the son of a fruit juice seller in Dariyaganj. Leaving studies after tenth grade, he helped in his family’s small business and later developed a keen interest in music. Initially, he sold Bollywood’s pirated cassettes to fulfill the demand of the public, but Kumar dreamed a bigger than this. In 1983, he founded the Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T-Series), which revolutionized the Indian music and film industry.
Bhushan Kumar, son of T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar, is now head of family and business. He is one of the most prominent Bollywood producers, who have given many cinematic and music gems. His uncle, Krishna Kumar, who is also an actor and co-owner of T-series, help in the company’s management and contribute significantly to the total assets of the family.
Bhushan Kumar successfully handled the T-series reins after the tragic death of his father Gulshan Kumar and since then has made a big impact in the music and film industry by furthering his legacy. Bhushan Kumar is married to actress and filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar, and the couple has a son named Ruhan. Interestingly, according to reports, Divya holds only 0.45% of the T-series company, while Bhushan Kumar’s personal property is estimated to be around Rs 414 crore.
Gulshan Kumar married Sudesh Kumari in 1975 and the couple had three children – Khushali Kumar, Bhushan Kumar and Tulsi Kumar. Previously, there were reports of separation between the couple. However, a source close to the actress clarified that Divya was the reason for the removal of ‘Kumar’ surname from her official Instagram account. He also added an additional ‘S’ to his maiden’s name ‘Khosla’.
Talking about his career, Bhushan Kumar is a famous filmmaker, Tulsi Kumar is one of the most successful singers of Bollywood and Khushali Kumar is also a professional singer and actress. According to media reports, their sisters Tulsi and Khushali are the mistress of property worth Rs 250 crore and Rs 100 crore respectively.
