Still fresh three days after plucking

Sabina Khatoon tells that this is a local desi variety of Gheera. Its biggest feature is that it remains absolutely fresh even three days after plucking it. Due to this unique quality, its demand is very high in the market. He told that he had sown it in loose soil and used vermi compost. After regular irrigation and care, the crop was ready in just two months. Now from this small farm she is getting 25 to 30 kg of Gheera daily, which she is earning well by selling it in the local market at the rate of Rs 40 per kg.

yield in the field for six months
Vermi compost has an important contribution behind the success of this farming. Sabina Khatoon says that she uses vermi compost instead of chemical fertilizers in the cultivation of all her vegetables. This not only maintains the fertility of the soil, but also improves the quality of the crop. Once the crop is planted, it gives yield in the field for six months. After which they prepare for the second crop.

Great option for farmers

The success of these farmers of Darbhanga shows that even small farmers can increase their income by combining traditional knowledge and modern methods of organic farming. A crop like Gheera is beneficial for health and which has a good shelf-life, can provide better profits to the farmers in the market. This example has become a source of inspiration for other farmers in the region, who are looking for alternatives to chemical farming.
