Ramesh Babu may live a luxurious life today, but his childhood was spent in extreme poverty. Born in a poor family in Bengaluru, Ramesh Babu was only seven years old and studying in the second class when his father died of a heart attack. His world changed at that very moment. After father’s death there was no financial support left in the house. To quench the hunger of her three children, Ramesh’s mother started working as a house maid. Many times meals were eaten at home only at one time of the day.

Distributed newspapers, sold milk door to door

After father’s death, mother was working hard, but it was very difficult to make ends meet. When Ramesh grew up a little, he also started taking up the responsibilities of the house. He would wake up early in the morning to supply milk from door to door and sell newspapers on the streets. Despite all this, he did not leave his studies and completed his SSLC. After this he took admission in Evening College.

Ramesh’s father left behind a small salon on Brigade Road, which was run by his uncle. He used to send five rupees home every day. But after a few years, uncle stopped giving even five rupees to Ramesh’s family. This thing hurt Ramesh very much. At the age of 14, Ramesh Babu took back his salon from his uncle. He renovated it and hired two artisans to take care of it himself. The problem was that the artisans did not come on time. Due to this his business was deteriorating. Ramesh Babu did not know how to cut hair. But, one day a customer insisted and got his hair cut by Ramesh Babu. Then Ramesh Babu discovered his skill of cutting hair and he started working diligently.

Ramesh works in the salon from 6 am to 5 pm. Then they would run away to college. He used to work hard for about 16 hours every day. Without complaint, without any interruption. Gradually, both his scissors and his hard work started getting fame. Ramesh Babu’s salon was doing well. He got a lot of customers. He added some money by saving from the earnings of the salon.

Car taken on installments changed the direction of life

1993 Took a Maruti Omni car on installments. But, after some time, due to financial constraints he could not pay the installments. The mistress of the house where Ramesh’s mother worked advised Ramesh to drive the car on rent. This advice became a boon for Ramesh. When he started renting cars, he came to know that there is immense potential in the rental car business in Bengaluru.

Now 400 cars in the fleet

After driving the car himself for some time, Ramesh Babu thought of doing something big. He wanted to completely enter the car rental business. He knew that there was immense potential for this business in Bengaluru, but he would have to do something different. He gradually started increasing the number of his cars. When business started doing well, he started buying luxury cars. Now he has 400 cars, out of which 120 are luxury cars.

Today Ramesh Babu is a big player in the car rental business. Today they give luxury cars on rent like Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Jaguar. They say that you name any luxury brand of cars, they have it. Even after having a business worth crores, Ramesh Babu has not stopped cutting at his salon.
