American boy came to India at the age of 22, made a 190 million Mexican food chain

New Delhi. At the age of 22, an American boy Burt Muller stepped into India with his 2 friends, a chef and a dream. Today, her company California Burrito is running more than 100 restaurants in India, which has an annual earnings of 23 million dollars (Rs 190 crore). California Burito has played an important role in making Mexican Foods popular all over India.

This idea came to Mueller when he came to India for a college program. He saw that a student fed Mexican food to his Indian host family, which was very much liked by all. Speaking to CNBC Make It, Mueller thought, “Maybe I can also bring a business of Mexican Food in India.”

Initially, friends joked

Returning to America, when Muller shared his idea with friends and family, many people made fun of him. Someone described it as a fantasy like ‘Alice in Wonderland’ but the muleler did not give up.

First restaurant opened in the year 2012
In 2012, at the age of 22, Muller opened the first California Burito Restaurant in Bengaluru. Gradually, his hard work paid off and his Burito chain spread throughout India. However, 19 of his 37 restaurants were closed during the Kovid-19 epidemic. But in 2021, he again caught pace and increased his business.

Marketing attention

Mueller said that initially he did not pay much attention to marketing. After Kovid, he started work on it. Now he has more than 100 stores across the country. He made a special offer with the influencers – ‘Everything in the menu is just 100 rupees’. This offer thronged so much crowd that long queues started outside the shops.

Bangalore made home
Burt lives in a duplex apartment in Bangalore, with three bedrooms and its fare is slightly more than one lakh rupees. Many furniture in the apartment belongs to their grandparents, which makes them feel like America.
