New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to Sikkim’s brand ‘Crafted Fibers’ in the 122nd episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and said that this brand is advancing the culture of Sikkim. This is not just a brand, the tradition of Sikkim, the art of weaving and the thinking of today’s fashion is the beautiful confluence of all three. The Prime Minister said that crafted fibers connected traditional weaving to modern fashion and became a social enterprise. In fact, Crafted Fiber was established by animal doctor Chewang Norbu Bhutia last year. Bhutia works with weavers and artisans from North and South Sikkim.

Dr. Chewang Noru Bhutia established Crafted Fibers to preserve the cultural heritage of Sikkim and to financially empower the local community, especially women, and make the local people skill training and makes them self -reliant. The villages weavers, cattlemen and self-help groups are associated with the crafted fibers of Dr. Bhutia and are earning well. Crafted fibers are made of shawls, stalls, gloves, socks and local handlooms. It uses the wool that comes from the rabbits and sheep of Sikkim. The special thing is that in its products, colors are also completely natural, in which chemical is not used.

Crafted fibers make scarves, shawls, and other clothes inspired by traditional Sikkimi designs.

The main objective of crafted fibers is to regenerate the traditional weaving art of Sikkim and to identify it on the global platform. The company focuses on strengthening local artisans, especially women,, which create high quality textile products using traditional handloom and weaving techniques.
