Gonda: It is said that if courage is strong then no difficulty is big. A woman from Gonda has done the same. Even after her husband left her, she did not give up and decided to stand on her own feet. Today she is earning lakhs from her sewing business and has become an inspiration for many women. This is the story of Yasmin Begum, a resident of Katra Bazar development block of Gonda district. A few years ago her husband left her and their four daughters. Life seemed very difficult in the beginning. There was neither money to run the house nor any support. But Yasmin Begum decided that she would not depend on anyone.
Earlier, she used to sew two to three clothes a day, due to which she could hardly run the house. But when his hard work started bearing fruit, he saved some money and bought a new sewing machine. Then he opened a sewing center in a small room of his house. Now 10 to 12 other women of the village also work with her. Today Yasmin is not only earning herself, but is also providing employment to others. They stitch blouses, suits, petticoats, kurta-pajama, children’s clothes etc. During the festive season, he receives so many orders that he has to work day and night. Now his monthly income has reached 40 to 50 thousand rupees and he earns lakhs of rupees in a year.
Yasmin says that when her husband left her, she felt that life was over. But now it seems that if a person is determined then he can do anything. Seeing her hard work and dedication, many women are now taking inspiration from her. Girls from nearby areas come to their center to learn tailoring, so that they too can become self-reliant. People of Gonda district now call Yasmin Begum as “woman of courage”. He has proved that even in difficult times, if a person does not lose courage, he can write his own destiny.
