Success Story: T. Satish Kumar, born in a small village, is no less than a film. Only Satish, studying till eighth, at the age of 16, took over the business of his father’s drowning milk and erected crores of business.
T. Satish Kumar, born near Erode of Tamil Nadu, studied only till eighth. Satish took over the drowning milk business of his father at the age of 16.
Satish’s family used to cultivate 20 acres, but his father’s milk business was on the verge of closure in 1992. Father and uncle used to send 3000 liters of milk daily to Bengaluru, but did not benefit. Satish left studies and stepped into business.
The family did not protest. In 1993, Satish adopted an idea. He saw that a customer in Bengaluru used to make cheese with his milk and sold it in hotels. Satish also decided to make cheese, although he had no information. There was no internet at that time. Nevertheless, he started making cheese with vinegar by heating milk and gradually improved the quality.
For the first time in 1993, 10 kg cheese was sent to Bangalore in a carry bag. By 1995, he started selling 50-100 kg of cheese daily. In the same year, he left the milk business and focused on cheese only.
In 1997, the idea of building a brand and went to a browsing center and chose the name ‘Milky Mist’, as it was easy, remembering and without any regional or religious touch. In 1998, a semi-automatic cheese plant was set up from a bank loan of Rs 10 lakh. Gradually, Milky Mist’s cheese reached the shops in Chennai, Bangalore and Coimbatore.
In 2007, the company created logo and launched the first TV advertisement in 2010, which made Milky Mist synonymous with Paneer. Today it is the most fresh cheese manufacturer in the country, which makes 45 tonnes of cheese daily.
In 2017, the entire automatic and robotic plant began in Perundurai, where 1700 employees make products such as cheese, curd, cheese, ghee, lassi, cream and pyasam. The turnover increased from 13 crore in 2007-08 to 750 crores in 2019-20 and 1100 crores in 2020-21. 30 percent of the earnings come from cheese, 27 percent cheese and 25 percent yogurt.
Satish started taking milk directly from 55000 farmers, which ended the commission of middlemen. The farmer started getting more money from this.
Satish Milky is the managing director of Mist Dairy Foods. His company’s turnover has reached Rs 20,000 crore. This story is of hard work, courage and big dreams, which inspires every Indian.
